Description
As featured in The London Evening Standard Homes & Property online - November 2018
A sun-dappled pergola in a garden so rare softly whispers your name in the Dorsoduro sestiere…
Beckoning you to rest easy, settle back and stay awhile within a sleepily serene backwater offering few sounds other than the happy chirruping of contented birds and the fluttering of vines in the gentle breeze, La Baruffa is one of the latest in the series of VOV-owned properties designed with gusto by ArchFlorence to sweep you off your feet.
A pretty-as-a-picture ‘pied-a-garden’ for lovers of the ‘real Venice’ offering complete liberation from any busy-life blues, the dainty La Baruffa is a charming confection of peerless craftsmanship, bespoke furnishings and well-coordinated hues.
Situated in the sweetly sedate district known as ‘Incurabili’ between the Guggenheim Collection and the glinting waters of the Zattere promenade, and distinguished by its adorable little wall-mounted wooden shrine to Saint Rita of Cascia, this exquisite apartment with its own private garden sleeps 4 (+1) guests in air-conditioned* accommodation arranged over 2 floors.
Marrying the restorative pleasures of being at one with nature with all the comforts you could wish for in a dream Venetian home, the 3 bedroom / 3 bathroom apartment La Baruffa comprises:
Ground floor
• An independent entrance opening to reveal your surprise ‘giardino segreto’ (secret garden) – a semi-paved oasis of meditation (and holiday celebration!) with palm trees, climbing roses, shrubs, ivy and flowering plants. Furnished with wooden sun-loungers for reclining al fresco, plus ample garden seating and a dining suite beneath a lantern-lit pergola of vines, it’s outdoor living at its loveliest!
• A glazed door leading you into La Baruffa’s luxurious open-plan living area dressed in masterfully coordinated patterns and high-end hessian shades offset with sassy splashes of colour against off-white timbers up above. Intimate and inviting, the room comprises -
- A sofa-furnished sitting / TV area with the apartment’s original decorative fireplace providing a focal point to the room
- A contemporary-style kitchen in off-white, wood and marble with top of the range appliances (including a Bosch oven), and a breakfast bar with stools
- A dining area just to the side with banquette seating and a dining table for 6 guests
• A charming studio-cum-bedroom - ideal for a senior member -decorated in a fetching mix of matching blue and linen colours, and with a single day bed plus an en suite marble bathroom with a shower enrobed in iridescent ‘mermaid tail’ tiling just waiting for you to make a splash!
A open-sided staircase at the centre of the apartment rising up to the –
1st floor where you’ll find, to one side –
• The handsome master bedroom with views over the quaint and quiet Calle Delle Mende, furnished on a blue, linen and off-white theme with a double bed, a built in mirrored wardrobe, floorboards in natural & grey alternate stripes, and a deluxe en suite bathroom in marble with bathtub
And to the other -
• La Baruffa’s delightful third bedroom overlooking the sunny Calle Navaro, furnished in a warm muscovado brown and a deep demerera yellow, with twin beds (which can be made into a double at your request), a built in wardrobe, striped floorboards matching those of the master, plus a smart en suite bathroom in marble with a shower encased in Moroccan-themed tiling
Are you part of a larger group who would like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another apartment in this building: Gondolieri (with ‘altana’ rooftop terrace!)
OUR COMMENT
LIFE’S A BED OF ROSES at new apartment LA BARUFFA – a sweet taste of paradise on the ‘Dorsoduro Museum Mile’…
A short amble to the iconic Church of the Salute, the Accademia Galleries and Bridge (and the VOV office!), the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, and close to a variety of fine eating places and bars including Ai Gondolieri and Ristorante Riviera for fine dining, and Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi for cicheti and spritz.
A short stroll to the new Conad supermarket Zattere Allo Spirito Santo and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere Spirito Santo, Zattere, Salute and Accademia – for travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!)
Also close to the ‘traghetto’ at Calle Lanza/Calle del Traghetto S. Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco, and within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

When a friend arrived at Marco Polo VoV had made a reservation for the speedboat. But there was fog. So they called my friend and guided her to a taxi who drove to Venice, where a boat was waiting to bring her. VoV was on the phone with her guiding her exactly where to go until she was safe in the boat. How great is that!!

We noticed that only some of the towel warmers worked and we were not able to figure out how to turn on the outside private garden lights. Neither of which were really bothersome, just some points for improvement!

Our stay was absolutely amazing. The communication was fantastic. About three days before, I sent over our itinerary via text which was nice since calling service was hit or miss. Rossana met us at our water taxi and escorted us to the villa. She spent 30 minutes with us, showing us around the villa, pointing out all of the amenities. Before she left, she reviewed a map of the area and provided recommendations for dining, supermarkets, shopping and which attractions were must dos! She offered to book our private water taxi to the train station. Finally, she looked in the cabinet and realized were did not have olive oil or mosquito repellant. Thirty minutes later she returned with both! We will be back, and we will be staying with Villas on Venice each and every time. There was no better way to be immersed in the culture. I can't say enough good things.

Our family of 5 absolutely loved this property. It's located in Dorsoduro near the Guggenheim, with vaporreto Terminals, restaurants and convenience stores all within a short walk. The house itself has been immaculately decorated, and definitely had the feel of a high end hotel in terms of quality. It was too cold for us to enjoy the garden space, but that would be an amazing place to hang out in warmer months. The rental hosts were top notch - responsive, helpful, assisted us with arranging private water taxis too/from the airport, and had a nice list of things to do and see locally. It was our favorite property over the course of our Italy travels, and we would very happily stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at La Baruffa for a week and had a wonderful time. The private garden patio is a peaceful oasis. The apartment is compact, but is well designed. The kitchen was one of the best equipped we've seen for a rental. The appliances are of high quality and it is a kitchen that is easy to cook in. The apartment is in a sweet neighborhood with plenty of little restaurants, galleries and shops to enjoy. It is a short walk to the Zattere too. We had a wonderful time! The highlight was a sunset cruise, arranged by Views on Venice's concierge, on Captain Marco's bragozzo, a classic wooden boat. We had the great joy of visiting an artichoke farm on San Erasmo Island! A special experience, a special week with fond memories.

Billie Pink La Baruffa is truly beautiful. We have rented many apartments and villas around the world and although this is relatively compact, it is without doubt one of the most beautifully styled and well thought through. In practical terms, everything was provided - and everything was brand new. In terms of design, the apartment is extremely elegant and comfortable. The secret garden was a delight - and makes La Baruffa ideal for families with children. And the location could not have been more perfect - so peaceful, yet just a few hundred metres from the Zatterethe Grand Canal. We fell in love with La Baruffa - so much so that we enquired into purchasing it (sadly it's not for sale!). Views on Venice was extremely professional and helpful from first enquiry through to departure. Marta who met us, was charming and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. It was like having our own concierge service! Irene was also lovely. Do please pass on our sincere thanks to both of them. The boat trip with Marco was a real highlight of our stay, thank you also for recommending and organising this. We were so impressed with La Baruffa and Views on Venice that we are already planning our visit next year. Many thanks, Billie, Joel, Wulfie, Marlowe and Lavinia (Grandma!)16/04/2019

As featured in The Telegraph online January 2018 - ‘Live like a local: why a holiday apartment is a great option for a Venice city break’ - by Fiona Duncan, Hotel Expert, and in the June 2016 issue of Condé Nast Traveller magazine - ‘My Own Private Venice - the best apartments, palazzos & villas to take over as your own' A marvellous ‘mansarda’ apartment with a wonderful ‘altana’ rooftop terrace offering exceptional views in the heart of Castello. Moments on foot to the landmark leaning bell-tower of San Giorgio Dei Greci and to the 'Questura' office of Donna Leon's fictional crime-busting Commissario Guido Brunetti on the ‘Rio di San Lorenzo’ canal, Ca’ Del Pittore offers captivating and highly individual roof-space surroundings for up to four guests on the very top floor. Trendy sister property to VOV’s supremely elegant Ca' Dei Greci (sleeping eight) in the same building and within easy walking distance of all the must-see sights of St. Mark’s Square (including the Basilica, Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) yet away from the hustle and bustle, the apartment has an entrance area and a staircase leading up to a large main living space made cosy and characterful thanks to the preservation of its magnificently rustic roof and wall timbers, wooden plank flooring, attractive ‘sunken’ seating area and eclectic choice of furnishings. This main room leads via an arched glazed doorway surrounded by pretty conservatory-style trompe de l’oeil decoration, to a bright and fully-equipped west-facing kitchen enjoying fabulous views from its two rear windows. There are two double bedrooms, one on either side of the apartment - a light and airy double with splendid beams, built in wardrobes and a double bed, and a similarly beamed twin with two singles - a handy walk-in closet plus two stylish bathrooms - one with a small bath and chequerboard flooring and another with w.c. and wash hand basin. Air-conditioning, a washing machine and internet connection further transform Ca’ Del Pittore into a comfy, practical and convenient choice whatever the season or duration of your stay, while a short staircase from the living area rises to the furnished ‘altana’ terrace boasting breathtaking ‘never to be forgotten’ vistas over Venice, taking in the churches of San Francesco Della Vigna and San Giorgio Maggiore in the distance and the onion domes and bell-tower of St. Mark’s soaring above a superabundance of terracotta rooftops. OUR COMMENT An impressive conversion in a fabulous spot, furnished by its Venice-loving owners. A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way. And even closer to home - moments to the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal. Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria on the Riva Degli Schiavoni waterfront. Important: please note that the apartment only accepts fully supervised children over 6 years of age or under 1 year (non-walking babies) because of the internal stairs, ‘altana’ rooftop terrace and low windows. Are you part of a larger group who would like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another apartment in this building: Ca’ Dei Greci For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.33 reviews

Immerse yourselves in the colours and richness of the adventures of Marco Polo on the legendary Silk Road! Awaiting your discovery in the district of San Marco, Ca’ Via Della Seta is a vibrant and characterful 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment, newly renovated and re-furbished by its globetrotting - or rather ‘globe-sailing’ - owners. Passionate travellers and adventurers both, their fascination for the history of Venice and the adventures of the merchant traveller Marco Polo has found its ultimate expression in this exciting new property, fabulously located in the very heart of Venice. Exit stage left and in just a few steps you’ll find yourself in front of the Teatro La Fenice! Exit stage right, and the beauty of St. Mark's Square awaits you. Upon entering the private Courtyard ‘Cuoridoro’ (Golden Hearts), the hustle and bustle of the day is left behind, while a second private entrance leads up a single flight of stairs and into your oasis. With six large windows overlooking the ‘Rio dei Barcaroli’ canal and six large windows onto the courtyard below, the perfect mix of privacy and Venetian life is achieved. Sleeping 4+1 and fully air-conditioned throughout, this one-of-a-kind apartment redolent of far-off lands is handsomely appointed, its 4m high ceiling with exposed beams accentuating the spaciousness and elegance of the living space, the exotic mirrors, wooden flooring, soft curtains and oriental rugs further enhancing its seductively bohemian and easy-living appeal. Wake up to the music of Mozart, who, in 1771, resided in the palazzo directly opposite. Sip your coffee, watching the gondolas pass below. A professional kitchen to rival that of a Michelin-starred restaurant is a bonus for those who enjoy cooking away from home, while the professional two-door fridge/freezer dispenses cold filtered water and ice for your sunset cocktails. For those preferring to leave the cooking to others, local dishes can be enjoyed at the neighbouring restaurant, who may (upon request) also be able to deliver food and wines directly to your timber and copper-topped dining table. After a full day of sightseeing, unwind on the leather sofa or armchair while the state-of-the-art Bluetooth stereo system plays soothingly in the background. Take a relaxing bath or an energising rain shower in one of the two exposed brick and beamed bathrooms, each delightfully decked out with timber flooring, contemporary fittings and wonderfully hip ‘rustic-chic’ copper pipework. The master bedroom with en-suite bathroom features two windows on the canal, a king size antique bed dating from the 1800s, soft lighting and oriental ornaments, while the courtyard-facing second bedroom with its ornate coloured lamps, oriental rug, and wooden statues that are a feature of the closed fireplace is charming and full of atmosphere. Romantic and cosseting for couples, this room can also be prepared as a twin with two single beds. The apartmenthas Wi-Fi internet connection and a 48 inch screen TV. The TV room also features a lovely sofa that can also be used as a single bed, while the Bose Bluetooth hi-fi systems installed in both bedrooms and kitchen, allow you to enjoy your music of choice wherever you happen to be. Unpack and store your bags in the private storeroom below, which is also equipped with a large washing machine and tumble dryer for your convenience. OUR COMMENT Immerse yourself in the richness and colours of the Silk Road right in the heart of Venice - your adventure begins here, as did Marco Polo’s! Water taxis can whisk you quickly from the airport or any part of Venice to within just a few steps of Ca’ Via Della Seta’s front door. Minutes from the Rialto vaporetto (water bus) stop and even closer to the stop at Sant’Angelo for easy movement around the city, and to the ‘traghetto’ gondola ferry at ‘Garzoni’ crossing the Grand Canal to San Toma in district of San Polo. Close to some of the finest luxury boutiques, three well-stocked supermarkets (one specialising in organic foods), to a local wine shop just off Campo Santo Stefano, and to one of Venice’s most famous coffee and pastry shops - Marchini - where locals stop to chat.
