Description
A beautiful canal side address to impress – the epitome of style and understated elegance on the Canal Dei Greci with its famous leaning tower nearby. This really is the best of both worlds… less than ten minutes from all the must-see sights of St Mark's Square (including the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) and yet right next to the quieter, more atmospheric neighbourhood of Castello.
Fans of Donna Leon’s fictional crime-buster, Commissario Guido Brunetti, will certainly feel at home here. The offices of the “Questura” where he works are a few doors away.
Ca’ dei Greci is an unusually light and airy apartment with lovely views over a wide canal - gondolas glide past and a water taxi can drop you at your front door. It offers spacious and classically Venetian surroundings for up to eight guests with four very private bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The main sitting-room has three double-height windows opening directly onto a balcony overlooking the canal, with a park beyond. It’s a charming, central room, very Venetian in style with an oriental rug on a traditional terrazzo floor, old mirrors and tasteful artworks.
The informal TV room to the side has huge, comfortable sofas, an upright piano for the musically inclined and two windows also overlooking the canal. The air-conditioned dining room is a picture of elegance in which classic wooden cabinetry and the bold geometric patterns of the polished parquet flooring are offset by the delicacy of a fine crystal chandelier and pretty cane-backed chairs. If you fancy a formal Venetian dinner, this is the place!
The dining room looks out towards the Campinale of St Mark's which you can see over the terracotta rooftops. Next to it stands the white, light-filled kitchen which is fully equipped and features traditional terazzo flooring plus a scrubbed wooden country style table for lazy breakfasts or preparing lunch or dinner.
There are four large and very tasteful bedrooms – three doubles and a twin - each stylishly presented with antique furniture, comfortable beds and beautiful wardrobes. The master bedroom has a secret door leading to its own hidden bathroom and canal views. The double bedroom at the back looks out over a pretty, palm-filled garden and the twin is charming and roomy.
So – ideal for a large family or for couples staying together (and needing their own space), Ca’ Dei Greci is a Venetian home from home.
OUR COMMENT
Space and relaxed grandeur in a fabulous spot…
A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way.
And even closer to home - moments to the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.
Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for easy travel around the city.
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.

We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful apartment. From our kind and informative welcome from Caterina to being able to open the balcony doors to watch the boats pass by on the canal, to the comfortable beds and well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms, to the really beautiful apartment (check out the floors!), and a location where we could walk anywhere we wanted, it really was a dream. This place, like Venice itself, is spectacular. The only thing better than the accommodations and location is the service the Views on Venice staff provide. Thank you for making our trip one we will never forget.

We are a family that travels extensively and always with multiple generations: from our 4 teenagers, to parents to grandparents. Of all of the home booking agencies we have used around the world, Views on Venice is the best for inventory of homes and service both before and during our stay. From the selection of our spacious, 4 bedroom home on this beautiful canal, to reserving our water taxi from the airport to our doorstep, to our VoV agent greeter, Zeno, who provided a history of Venice that had my teenagers totally engaged, to the reserving the water taxi to pick us up at our doorstep and take us to the train station at the end of our stay, everything was perfect! There is a grocery store just over the canal bridge, a bakery down the canal with the best pastries in Italy, comfortable walk to San Marco, overall great neighborhood. Two flights of stairs up to the apartment was a bit tricky for grandma, but hey Venice is all about walking so the exercise did her good and she is reasonably fit. I highly recommend this home for familiesmultiple couples/friends, and even if you prefer a different home, I would highly recommend you book through Views on Venice!

What a lovely apartment! We found Ca dei Greci exceeded expectations, elegant, spacious and very well equipped. Watching the boats go by from the balcony, the astonishing view of the Campanile of San Marco while sitting at the kitchen table, the thoughtful and comprehensive guide to the flat and to Venice, comfortable beds, and cosy sofas were just some of the things that contributed to an excellent holiday. We were particularly impressed with the welcome and assistance we received from Annalisa, Marta and their colleagues at Views on Venice. Nothing was too much trouble and any queries we had were dealt with quickly and with friendly courtesy.

I looked at quite a few properties for an extended family holiday before I chose this one . I have stayed in Venice several times but never in Castello. The apartment was as advertised and very comfortable for 8 people ranging from 15 to 64 . We had everything that we needed for our stay and the property was well maintained and clean . The small balcony overlooked a very quiet street with gondolas and other water traffic going past which added to the authentic Venice feel of the area . We walked everywhere from our base and found it easy to use water taxis to reach Murano and Burano with our 48 hour passes. The booking process was easy and I found the staff to be quick to reply to my queries and requests . We booked water taxis from the station and airport and then back to the airport and everything was arranged perfectly for us . I would certainly recommend this property that is away from it all if you want it to be , but close enough to get to all the sights easily .

We arrived in Venice after a very long day ...3 flights from Canada and 6 hours time difference. There were 7 of us including 2 children. My sister joined us a bit later. We so enjoyed the water taxi arranged by V on V. It was convenient, stress less and such a great way for a first experience in Venice. The apartment itself was wonderful. Very spacious rooms and we loved the windows/balcony on the front that looked down at the walkway, canal and 2 bridges. So Venice! It was really nice to have 4 sets of keys too. The locks themselves were all part of the experience. We didn't cook in the apartment but did have most meals there, lots of space and dishes etc. The location is perfect and not so busy as some parts of Venice. Great area to explore and we could hear the bells from St Mark's. We were pleased with the maps provided and the service was excellent. We decided to have a water taxi take us to the train station and were pleased to have that arranged for us ...so easy! I would not hesitate to recommend this place and company to anyone visiting Venice. Thank you so much!

Our apartment was absolutely lovely and in the perfect location. We were in Venice July 11-14, 2015 Venice was super crowded and the weather was very hot but we enjoyed every second of our stay in this lovely and wonderfully air conditioned apartment. Two families stayed there with 7 people and it was the perfect amount of space so everyone could enjoy their privacy and each other in the common rooms. We loved being in Castello as opposed to San Marco as it was less touristy and definitely less crowded. Walking was easy to major sites, restaurants, shopping, gelato, etc. We would definitely recommend this apartment to others and have already recommended it to friends.

We recently returned home after a 2 1/2 week trip through Italy, and a highlight among all the highlights was our stay in Venice. Our apartment Ca dei Greci was nothing short of spectacular. We tend to be suspicious of property photos on web sites, but this more than lived up to the promise. Walking in for the first time was like entering our own private palazzo! Plenty of room and privacy for our three couples it felt quite luxurious. And the location was outstanding. Easy walks brought us to key sights, the Grand Canal, and central Vaporetto stops, not to mention a busy gelateria right down the street. Yet the setting outside our door and through our windows was, by wonderful contrast, quiet and serene, worlds away from the crowds… not to mention picturesque. It pretty much fulfilled the dream in every way. (In fact the only issue I can recall encountering is that the entry foyer to the building is very dark at night, and finding the lights was a challenge. But to be fair, that wasn't really part of the dream!) Our thanks to Views on Venice for accommodating our uncertain arrival schedule, and for arranging water taxis to take us right to our door, and then from it to the airport at the end of our stay. They were there to answer questions regarding directions, vaporetto routes, restaurant suggestions, you name it. They were a fantastic help. Can't wait to come back!

Ca’ Del Monastero 4 Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 4 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce. Enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.* No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling… Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework. Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning**, Wi-Fi internet connection and communal utility facilities), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living. Ca’ Del Monastero 4 A hugely appealing dual-aspect apartment enjoying picturesque views of the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà to the front and the Salizada Dei Fondaco Dei Turchi to the rear, offering impressive accommodation for up to 8 guests. Showcasing elegance and pared-down simplicity at its best and situated on the 1st floor of the residence reached by lift or via a staircase rising from the splendid ‘chequerboard’ marble-floored communal entrance hallway on the floor below, accommodation comprises a full-length main sitting/dining room with Venetian terrazzo flooring and tall ceilings which echoes the traditional layout of many Venetian ‘Piano Nobili’. Of fine proportions and topped with beautiful painted beams dotted with glass chandeliers, the room offers plenty of seating and a modern style dining suite quirkily offset by two fun and fabulous Rococo-style armchairs. To one side of the main central room sits the well-equipped and fully-fitted kitchen/breakfast room, while the other leads to two well-dressed double bedrooms - one to the front with feature fireplace (not in use) and one to the rear and both with their own en-suite and up-to-date bathrooms (one with a large shower, the other with a bathtub and shower over, and both beautifully appointed). In between the two bedrooms sits a further small bedroom/snug with a sofa/’pull out’ bed sleeping 2, while a third bedroom with a double bed (can be made into twins - simply ask when booking) and an en-suite service bathroom (w.c. and wash hand basin only) sits to the front of the apartment on the opposite side. *Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments?
