Description
Ca’ Del Monastero 4
Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 4 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce.
Enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.*
No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling…
Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework.
Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning**, Wi-Fi internet connection and communal utility facilities), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living.
Ca’ Del Monastero 4
A hugely appealing dual-aspect apartment enjoying picturesque views of the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà to the front and the Salizada Dei Fondaco Dei Turchi to the rear, offering impressive accommodation for up to 8 guests.
Showcasing elegance and pared-down simplicity at its best and situated on the 1st floor of the residence reached by lift or via a staircase rising from the splendid ‘chequerboard’ marble-floored communal entrance hallway on the floor below, accommodation comprises a full-length main sitting/dining room with Venetian terrazzo flooring and tall ceilings which echoes the traditional layout of many Venetian ‘Piano Nobili’.
Of fine proportions and topped with beautiful painted beams dotted with glass chandeliers, the room offers plenty of seating and a modern style dining suite quirkily offset by two fun and fabulous Rococo-style armchairs.
To one side of the main central room sits the well-equipped and fully-fitted kitchen/breakfast room, while the other leads to two well-dressed double bedrooms - one to the front with feature fireplace (not in use) and one to the rear and both with their own en-suite and up-to-date bathrooms (one with a large shower, the other with a bathtub and shower over, and both beautifully appointed).
In between the two bedrooms sits a further small bedroom/snug with a sofa/’pull out’ bed sleeping 2, while a third bedroom with a double bed (can be made into twins - simply ask when booking) and an en-suite service bathroom (w.c. and wash hand basin only) sits to the front of the apartment on the opposite side.
*Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer seven other apartments within this residence: Ca’ Del Monastero 1,Ca’ Del Monastero 2, Ca’ Del Monastero 3, Ca’ Del Monastero 5, Ca’ Del Monastero 6, Ca’ Del Monastero 7, Ca’ Del Monastero 8, Ca’ Del Monastero 9.
Our Comment
Style, creature comforts and history combined, in an area brimming with local flavour.
Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city.
And so much to see and do right on your doorstep…
Moments to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio - one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares and home to a well-stocked Coop supermarket and nearby local shops - and a short walk to a Conad supermarket on the Rio Marin canal.
Close to a great variety of cafes, bars and eateries including All’ Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta to name but a few, and within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae (Museum of the History of Fabrics, Costumes and Perfumes) and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner Della Regina.
A leisurely stroll to the 14th Century Franciscan Church of the Frari, (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption'), the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintoretto’s, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo plus the culinary delights and buzz of the Rialto.
**Please note that the operation of air-conditioning and heating are subject to municipality regulation. In general, heating is available from mid-October to mid-April, while air-conditioning is available from mid-April to mid-October. Please contact us for further information.

We loved this apartment. We traveled with 2 families and it was perfect for our group. The rooms were large and spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. We loved the location although the walk to St. Mark’s square was about 20 minutes. You can also use the water taxi service. Because of this, it was very quiet and peaceful in the area and not many tourists. Communication with the company was easy and they were very responsive with any questions. We were meet by a representative to review the apartment and instructions for keys, etc. Very smooth and easy. I would definitely recommend this apartment and Views on Venice. Thanks for a wonderful time!

The staff were lovely, helpful and professional throughout the process. The gondola rowing lesson, San Marco tour, and sunset boat trip (all arranged by VoV) created memories we will always cherish. Thanks for making our stay in Venice spectacular.

Views on Venice had to best check in process of anywhere we have stayed. They had great communication with us through out the entire booking process and answered our many questions quickly. The apartment was beautiful and exactly as pictured. We were handed beautiful maps upon arrival with great descriptions of how to find what we needed. They gave us a very complete notebook about Venice giving us great information about everything we needed during our stay. It included tips on how to get around, great restaurants in all the different neighborhoods and at different price points. I highly recommend any of the properties managed by this group.

The location is also great for access to main routes to Murano and Burano from the main canal. A beautiful canal side address to impress – the epitome of style and understated elegance on the Canal Dei Greci with its famous leaning tower nearby. This really is the best of both worlds… less than ten minutes from all the must-see sights of St Mark's Square (including the Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) and yet right next to the quieter, more atmospheric neighbourhood of Castello. Fans of Donna Leon’s fictional crime-buster, Commissario Guido Brunetti, will certainly feel at home here. The offices of the “Questura” where he works are a few doors away. Ca’ dei Greci is an unusually light and airy apartment with lovely views over a wide canal - gondolas glide past and a water taxi can drop you at your front door. It offers spacious and classically Venetian surroundings for up to eight guests with four very private bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main sitting-room has three double-height windows opening directly onto a balcony overlooking the canal, with a park beyond. It’s a charming, central room, very Venetian in style with an oriental rug on a traditional terrazzo floor, old mirrors and tasteful artworks. The informal TV room to the side has huge, comfortable sofas, an upright piano for the musically inclined and two windows also overlooking the canal. The air-conditioned dining room is a picture of elegance in which classic wooden cabinetry and the bold geometric patterns of the polished parquet flooring are offset by the delicacy of a fine crystal chandelier and pretty cane-backed chairs. If you fancy a formal Venetian dinner, this is the place! The dining room looks out towards the Campinale of St Mark's which you can see over the terracotta rooftops. Next to it stands the white, light-filled kitchen which is fully equipped and features traditional terazzo flooring plus a scrubbed wooden country style table for lazy breakfasts or preparing lunch or dinner. There are four large and very tasteful bedrooms – three doubles and a twin - each stylishly presented with antique furniture, comfortable beds and beautiful wardrobes. The master bedroom has a secret door leading to its own hidden bathroom and canal views. The double bedroom at the back looks out over a pretty, palm-filled garden and the twin is charming and roomy. So – ideal for a large family or for couples staying together (and needing their own space), Ca’ Dei Greci is a Venetian home from home. OUR COMMENT Space and relaxed grandeur in a fabulous spot… A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way. And even closer to home - moments to the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.
