Description
Ca’ Del Monastero 5
Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 5 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce.
Newly available and enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.*
No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling…
Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework.
Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning***, Wi-Fi internet connection and communal utility facilities), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living.
Ca’ Del Monastero 5
Good things come in little packages… and this is no exception!
Cossetting, cosy and neat as a new pin - a delightfully characterful 2 bedroom/1 bathroom pied-à-terre situated to the rear of the residence with views over the ‘Salizada’ to the pretty walled rear garden of Venice’s Natural History Museum at the Fondaco Dei Turchi plus a shared furnished courtyard**
Entered by way of a separate entrance from the Salizada below (note the plaque on the wall dedicated to Don Luigi Caburlotto who, in this house in 1850, founded the religious ‘Institute of the Daughters of San Giuseppe’), the apartment sits on the 1st floor reached by stairs.
Sleeping four in comfort, accommodation comprises a main sitting room with beautiful beams and two ceiling-height glazed windows with balustrades overlooking the Salizada and walled garden opposite.
Just to the side sits the well-equipped and fully-fitted kitchen/dining room with seating for four, while on the opposite side sits an inner hallway giving access to the two bedrooms - an attractive twin with two single beds (1 a ‘pull out’) to the front and a stylish double with double bed and a dressing area beyond to the rear - both of which share the apartment’s modern bathroom with shower.
And last but not least, access on the ground floor to the shared internal furnished courtyard – a little haven of calm set away from the world!
Take a look at this great trip report by a previous guest of the apartment!

Our Comment
Style, creature comforts and history combined, in an area brimming with local flavour.
Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city.
And so much to see and do right on your doorstep…
Moments to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio - one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares and home to a well-stocked Coop supermarket and nearby local shops - and a short walk to a Conad supermarket on the Rio Marin canal.
Close to a great variety of cafes, bars and eateries including All’ Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta to name but a few, and within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae (Museum of the History of Fabrics, Costumes and Perfumes) and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner Della Regina.
A leisurely stroll to the 14th Century Franciscan Church of the Frari, (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption'), the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintoretto’s, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo plus the culinary delights and buzz of the Rialto.

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes! Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include: Corte Rubbi 5 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2+1 A beautifully attired bijou studio enjoying canal views from its 2 windows to the fore and comprising: A charming main living / dining / sleeping area in fashionably clashing shades of flamingo pink and scarlet with Venetian terrazzo flooring, wooden beamed ceiling, a double bed with twin bunk beds to the rear, a well-equipped kitchenette for light cooking, and a dining area seating 4 A luxurious bathroom to the side with marble walls and chromotherapy shower Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514 OUR COMMENT A bijou studio for 4 bursting with colour and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town. A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
