Description
As featured in The Telegraph online January 2018 - ‘Live like a local: why a holiday apartment is a great option for a Venice city break’ - by Fiona Duncan, Hotel Expert, and in the June 2016 issue of Condé Nast Traveller magazine - ‘My Own Private Venice - the best apartments, palazzos & villas to take over as your own'
A marvellous ‘mansarda’ apartment with a wonderful ‘altana’ rooftop terrace offering exceptional views in the heart of Castello. Moments on foot to the landmark leaning bell-tower of San Giorgio Dei Greci and to the 'Questura' office of Donna Leon's fictional crime-busting Commissario Guido Brunetti on the ‘Rio di San Lorenzo’ canal, Ca’ Del Pittore offers captivating and highly individual roof-space surroundings for up to four guests on the very top floor.
Trendy sister property to VOV’s supremely elegant Ca' Dei Greci (sleeping eight) in the same building and within easy walking distance of all the must-see sights of St. Mark’s Square (including the Basilica, Doge’s Palace and the Clock Tower) yet away from the hustle and bustle, the apartment has an entrance area and a staircase leading up to a large main living space made cosy and characterful thanks to the preservation of its magnificently rustic roof and wall timbers, wooden plank flooring, attractive ‘sunken’ seating area and eclectic choice of furnishings.
This main room leads via an arched glazed doorway surrounded by pretty conservatory-style trompe de l’oeil decoration, to a bright and fully-equipped west-facing kitchen enjoying fabulous views from its two rear windows.
There are two double bedrooms, one on either side of the apartment - a light and airy double with splendid beams, built in wardrobes and a double bed, and a similarly beamed twin with two singles - a handy walk-in closet plus two stylish bathrooms - one with a small bath and chequerboard flooring and another with w.c. and wash hand basin.
Air-conditioning, a washing machine and internet connection further transform Ca’ Del Pittore into a comfy, practical and convenient choice whatever the season or duration of your stay, while a short staircase from the living area rises to the furnished ‘altana’ terrace boasting breathtaking ‘never to be forgotten’ vistas over Venice, taking in the churches of San Francesco Della Vigna and San Giorgio Maggiore in the distance and the onion domes and bell-tower of St. Mark’s soaring above a superabundance of terracotta rooftops.
OUR COMMENT
An impressive conversion in a fabulous spot, furnished by its Venice-loving owners.
A short walk to the atmospheric Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni and its wonderful Carpaccio paintings, the monumental Dominican Basilica di Santi Giovanni e Paolo (one of the largest churches in Venice and burial place of no fewer than 25 Venetian Doges), and to Campo Santa Maria Formosa (site of the Querini Stampalia) passing Palazzo Grimani on the way.
And even closer to home - moments to the cavernous and newly restored Church of San Lorenzo (long closed but now home to Ocean Space - a collaborative platform focusing on ocean conservation) and to the Museo di Dipinti Sacri Byzanti (Museum of Icons) just along the canal.
Also within easy reach of the local Punto supermarket for easy self-catering and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria on the Riva Degli Schiavoni waterfront.
Important: please note that the apartment only accepts fully supervised children over 6 years of age or under 1 year (non-walking babies) because of the internal stairs, ‘altana’ rooftop terrace and low windows.
Are you part of a larger group who would like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer another apartment in this building: Ca’ Dei Greci
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.

Enrica was very helpful with check-in, and provided great advice to help us make the best of our week in Venice. |

It serves to be aware of housing conditions in Venice. Here, 60 steps to climb, fairly tight shower down a flight of stairs, and quirky guest toilet. Obviously, this is the price to pay to feel immediately like a local!

The roof terrace would benefit from some attention. Guests should be aware there is a steep internal staircase down to the shower room.

Wonderful stay. We hosted a small party for our motley group of artists from Boston attending the Biennale preview. The rooftop and kitchen were great gathering spots for conversation. Although I realize it's not "green," but having one roll of paper towels and a box of kleenex would prevent staining the linen dishtowels and bathroom towels when wiping up coffee dripsremoving make-up. We will certainly book again with you on our next trip, maybe even before 2 years! Wondering if you offer concierge service? Mostly for carrying luggage updown the stairs as well as meeting at the water bus and helping with bridges to an apartment location? Many thanks again! jan

professional yet friendly assistance. We had a problem with the air-conditioning in one of the bedrooms, but it was addressed immediately and fixed the following morning when we were out enjoying Venice. One suggestion for improvement might be to supply a pint of milk and some sliced bread, Butter, some eggs - so that on arrival guests can make tea/coffee with milk & an option to eat without having to go out to a supermarket before they do anything thing else. We recently stayed in a self catering Windmill and the owners did just that. ALL of the comments in the Guest Book refers to the wonderful welcome of milk, eggs, bread....Just a suggestion. Thank you we had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Views on Venicethe apartment.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this apartment and our hosts! The apartment is everything the photos show. It is very spacious! The A/C is amazing, we were so comfortable. We requested that they turn on the A/C several hours before our arrival to make sure the apartment was cool, and Fredricka made a special trip to do so. The beds were super comfy. Our host gave us specific instructions for getting a water taxi upon our arrival. Fredricka was waiting for us when we arrived at the apartment and gave us a very thorough tour and explained everything to us. Our hosts booked a water taxi for us from the apartment to the airport. They were very responsive every time we messaged them. They even went so far as to mail our WiTour equipment back for us! We will stay at this apartment when returning to Venice

We had a wonderful stay at Ca' Del Pittore, a charming little apartment just far enough from the beaten path to make for the perfect experience in Venice. The views from the altana were enjoyed by everyone and the space has been converted in a most clever way. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning highly effective, which turned out to be quite important during our stay. My only complaint might be that the kitchen was a bit understocked. We were no more than a 7 minute walk from Saint Mark's Square, but there were none of the oppressive crowds in our neighborhood. Shopping and transporation nearby. Do not hesitate to visit this flat. Just be prepared for a few steps to get there!

Upon arriving in Venezia, we were a little disappointed that the vaporetto (number 5.1) that VOV told us to take to the apartment went around the back of the island (via Canale Scomenzera) and did not transverse the Grand Canal as we were looking forward to enjoying the ride through the city as is customary when one arrives in Venice I'd recommend taking the number 12 vaporetti instead which takes longer but is much more enjoyable. Once we arrived at the San Zaccaria stop, the VOV rep, Cristina, promptly met us and led us on the 5 min walk to the apartment in the less touristy Castello area. Once in the building and through the somewhat dreary entrance area, the apartment is on the top floor with no lift. This was not a problem for us but could be an issue for elderlythose with heavy luggage. What a wonderful space here, very interesting floor plan with lots of character! Bedrooms and kitchen are brightly lit with natural light from the windows. All very clean with a surprisingly large master bedroom. All beds and bedding were very comfortable my daughter even said the pull out single bed she slept on in the living area was great. There's also a great roof deck with excellent views over the city. The apt has a wonderful well-equipped kitchen with a large table that served as a gathering point for my family of 5 (more so than the living area). The clothes washer worked well and came in handy after 5 days in the Cinque Terre. Also, it was hot our first day in Venice and the A/C worked great throughout the entire apartment. The apt is close to San Marco (5 min walk) but far enough away from the maddening crowds of cruise ship tourists A brisk walk took me across the Academia bridge to the Dosudoro within 20 mins. Very good local restaurants nearby and a good supermarket with everything you need for a full mealjust a snack (fresh produce, bread, cured meats, cheeses, beer/wine, etc). We experienced some minor plumbing issues (downstairs shower drain was slow, kitchen faucet loose) but, overall, I highly recommend this apartment for familiesa group of friends for a wonderful stay in Venice. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We have only wonderful things to say about Views on Venice! Things began well with a smooth transfer from the airport via private water taxi to our front door, where we met Giacomo, the representative who explained everything about the apartment. The apartment itself, Ca' del Pittore, was absolutely marvelous as beautiful as the pictures, much larger than I expected to find in Europe, and certainly big enough for two couples. It could have slept 6 easily. The staff was responsive to our questions during the week. But they really outdid themselves when our traveling companion left her expensive camera on the bus to the airport on our way home. VoV staff were able to retrieve it from the bus company and keep it at their office until our friend could arrange to get it shipped to the U.S. I really can't say enough positive things about Views on Venice! Anyone thinking about renting an apartment there should have absolutely no second thoughts about dealing with this company.

Ca del Pittore is in an exellent position close to piazza S. Marco, very calm with breathtaking views over the roofs and even gardens of Venice from the large altana and every window of the appartment. The warm atmosphere with the open views of the roof construction is really unique. Also with cold temperatures outside it was possible to heat well the living room. In the generally well equipped kitchen we missed a few good pots for cooking which were furnished generously by VoV. The supermarket closeby provided us with excellent products.

Immerse yourselves in the colours and richness of the adventures of Marco Polo on the legendary Silk Road! Awaiting your discovery in the district of San Marco, Ca’ Via Della Seta is a vibrant and characterful 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment, newly renovated and re-furbished by its globetrotting - or rather ‘globe-sailing’ - owners. Passionate travellers and adventurers both, their fascination for the history of Venice and the adventures of the merchant traveller Marco Polo has found its ultimate expression in this exciting new property, fabulously located in the very heart of Venice. Exit stage left and in just a few steps you’ll find yourself in front of the Teatro La Fenice! Exit stage right, and the beauty of St. Mark's Square awaits you. Upon entering the private Courtyard ‘Cuoridoro’ (Golden Hearts), the hustle and bustle of the day is left behind, while a second private entrance leads up a single flight of stairs and into your oasis. With six large windows overlooking the ‘Rio dei Barcaroli’ canal and six large windows onto the courtyard below, the perfect mix of privacy and Venetian life is achieved. Sleeping 4+1 and fully air-conditioned throughout, this one-of-a-kind apartment redolent of far-off lands is handsomely appointed, its 4m high ceiling with exposed beams accentuating the spaciousness and elegance of the living space, the exotic mirrors, wooden flooring, soft curtains and oriental rugs further enhancing its seductively bohemian and easy-living appeal. Wake up to the music of Mozart, who, in 1771, resided in the palazzo directly opposite. Sip your coffee, watching the gondolas pass below. A professional kitchen to rival that of a Michelin-starred restaurant is a bonus for those who enjoy cooking away from home, while the professional two-door fridge/freezer dispenses cold filtered water and ice for your sunset cocktails. For those preferring to leave the cooking to others, local dishes can be enjoyed at the neighbouring restaurant, who may (upon request) also be able to deliver food and wines directly to your timber and copper-topped dining table. After a full day of sightseeing, unwind on the leather sofa or armchair while the state-of-the-art Bluetooth stereo system plays soothingly in the background. Take a relaxing bath or an energising rain shower in one of the two exposed brick and beamed bathrooms, each delightfully decked out with timber flooring, contemporary fittings and wonderfully hip ‘rustic-chic’ copper pipework. The master bedroom with en-suite bathroom features two windows on the canal, a king size antique bed dating from the 1800s, soft lighting and oriental ornaments, while the courtyard-facing second bedroom with its ornate coloured lamps, oriental rug, and wooden statues that are a feature of the closed fireplace is charming and full of atmosphere. Romantic and cosseting for couples, this room can also be prepared as a twin with two single beds. The apartmenthas Wi-Fi internet connection and a 48 inch screen TV. The TV room also features a lovely sofa that can also be used as a single bed, while the Bose Bluetooth hi-fi systems installed in both bedrooms and kitchen, allow you to enjoy your music of choice wherever you happen to be. Unpack and store your bags in the private storeroom below, which is also equipped with a large washing machine and tumble dryer for your convenience. OUR COMMENT Immerse yourself in the richness and colours of the Silk Road right in the heart of Venice - your adventure begins here, as did Marco Polo’s! Water taxis can whisk you quickly from the airport or any part of Venice to within just a few steps of Ca’ Via Della Seta’s front door. Minutes from the Rialto vaporetto (water bus) stop and even closer to the stop at Sant’Angelo for easy movement around the city, and to the ‘traghetto’ gondola ferry at ‘Garzoni’ crossing the Grand Canal to San Toma in district of San Polo. Close to some of the finest luxury boutiques, three well-stocked supermarkets (one specialising in organic foods), to a local wine shop just off Campo Santo Stefano, and to one of Venice’s most famous coffee and pastry shops - Marchini - where locals stop to chat. A 10 minute amble across the iconic Rialto Bridge to the Rialto for market-fresh food shopping, and within a short stroll of the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and the Accademia Bridge leading over the Grand Canal to the attractions of Dorsoduro. For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.30 reviews

Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 5 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. A cosy and characterful room with great personality A spacious and attractive double bedroom with double bed and 2 windows facing the Rio de San Zulian canal A smart separate marble bathroom with shower A restful 2nd double bedroom to the rear of the apartment with a double bed and a smart en suite marble bathroom with small bathtub and shower over Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini. *Note that performances are dependent on weather and season **Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation.
