Description
An oh-so-chic Grand Canal apartment with a contemporary-style interior
boasting iconic Venetian views that are thrillingly superior!
Gazing down on the jade-green waters gently lapping at its feet along that gorgeous stretch of the Canale Grande between the Ca’ Rezzonico Museum of 18th-century Venice and the Accademia Galleries / Bridge, and eagerly anticipating your arrival within the distinctive terracotta-accented 19th-century Palazzina Marioni * (an exquisite waterside palace designed by architect Lodovico Cadorin, restorer and decorator of rooms within Venice’s famous Caffè Florian in St. Mark’s Square no less), this sleek apartment sleeps 7 guests in pared-down patrician elegance on the 2nd floor of the palazzo in the very heart of Dorsoduro.**
Recently restored from top-to-toe and showcasing imaginative design and superbly crafted custom fittings, the fully air-conditioned apartment runs the entire depth of the palazzo and is dashingly decked out with all the mod-cons one could wish for.
Arrive by private water taxi directly at the palazzo’s private water door before indulging your inner ‘aristo’ as you make yourself at home!
Elevating your Venice holiday experience to dizzying new heights and offering gracious Venetian living within its 4 refined double bedrooms, accommodation is as spacious and flexible as it is unforgettable and comprises:
A bright and breezy main sitting room dressed in salvia green with a tropical pappagallo wall mural and showcasing traditional Venetian polished terrazzo flooring, a contemporary Murano chandelier overhead, a pair of sumptuous sofas in piped juicy mulberry velvet for lounging at your leisure not forgetting a pair of arched windows to the fore drawing your eye towards the truly mind-blowing Grand Canal views beyond
Just off the sitting room sits the stylish streamlined kitchen / dining room with sepia forest mural and feature fireplace – neat, well groomed, well equipped for light cooking and furnished with a dining suite for breakfasting each morning as the Grand Canal springs to life outside your windows, or gradually winds down at the close of each action-packed day
Accessed via a short internal hallway and peacefully situated to the side of the palazzo sits a relaxing double bedroom in easy-on the eye neutrals with terrazzo flooring, a double bed (which can be made into twins – simply request when booking) and a separate beautifully decorated bathroom with shower
A restful 2nd restful double bedroom to the side in similarly uncluttered style and furnished with a French-size bed sleeping one in comfort (or 2 up close!)
A stylish 3rd double bedroom overlooking the palazzo’s shaded private garden to the rear*** with floral feature wall and a Rococo-style double bed which can also be made into twins – again, simply request when booking
And also to the rear, a really rather unique 4th double bedroom with views of the garden...
… bright and airy, the room features warm wooden parquet flooring underfoot, a double bed, a cleverly concealed kitchen area to the rear with a simple dining table which can be folded and stowed away so freeing up all available space to the max – sheer genius!
And completing Ca’ Mainella’s much-adored accommodation (read its reviews!) a 2nd bathroom with ‘tapestry’ mosaic and bathtub with shower over
* Featured on the front cover of the book ‘I Silenzi di Venezia’ by Gian Antonio Cibotto and Giustino Chemello.
** Please note that the apartment is reached by stairs (no lift)
*** Featured as ‘Giardino Balboni a Dorsoduro’ in the book ‘Giardino Segreti a Venezia’ by Cristiana Moldi-Ravenna and Tudy Sammartini.
OUR COMMENT
A fabulous Grand Canal apartment majoring on quiet luxury and its great location and offering exceptional views extending all the way from the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art to the left, to the Accademia Bridge (beside our office) to the right, with VOV / Dimora Italia’s Palazzo Cerchieri right next door!
Within a stone’s throw of an excellent variety of interesting small shops, traditional bars and restaurants typical of Dorsoduro, including the canal-side Osteria Enoteca Ai Artisti, Ristorante Bakaro, Oniga, Osteria Alla Bifora, Ca’ Del Vento and Osteria Ai Pugni to name but a few… not forgetting the locals’ favourite Cantinone Gia Schiavi-Al Bottegon for super cicheti and Bar Alla Toletta for some of the tastiest tramezzini in own!
A gentle stroll to the ‘Barca Della Frutta e Verdure’ fruit and vegetable boat moored at the café-fringed Campo San Barnaba (don’t forget your camera!), a well-stocked 2-floor Punto supermarket in the lively Campo Santa Margherita for all your self-catering needs, and VOV / Dimora Italia’s very own ‘A Tavola’ Cooking School offering cooking lessons, wine tastings and a delightful private event space on the pretty Rio Della Romite canal... feel free to ask us for further details!
A short amble to the glittering Zattere waterfront with its fabulous panorama across the wide Giudecca Canal, and to the Squero San Trovaso – founded in the 17th century and the oldest of only a tiny handful of working gondola boatyards still left in Venice today, where skilled local artisans continue to craft, maintain and repair gondolas by hand using centuries-old methods.
Also conveniently close to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – one at Accademia and the other at Ca’ Rezzonico – for hassle-free sightseeing and easy travel around the city.

I would add a soap tray in the shower and extra towel hooks in the bathroom.

We had a warm welcome with helpful advice from the Views on Venice representative. The apartment was clean and tastefully furnished with good views of Academia Bridge.

Not too much to improve. In the kitchen, we would have liked a much larger chopping board, there is no potato masher and the vegetable peeler is quite blunt and so difficult to prepare food.

As featured in The Telegraph online January 2018 - ‘Live like a local: why a holiday apartment is a great option for a Venice city break’ - by Fiona Duncan, Hotel Expert Just when we thought our properties couldn’t be rivalled, along comes La Marchesa – the Belle of the Ball! Dressed to perfection in the same sublime signature style that propelled VOV-owned Gondolieri, Ca’ Dell’Opera, Ca’ Dell’ Ulivo, Ca’ Del Teatro and Ca’ Della Luce into the upper echelons of the luxury rentals market, the striking La Marchesa has finally made her debut and from what we’ve seen already will enchant her future guests! Discovered within a discreet network of little alleyways that you’d hardly know were there, yet merely moments away from the magnificence of St. Mark’s Square and Venice’s most vibrant designer boutique-laden thoroughfares where you can feast your eyes on Ferragamo, go gaga over Gucci, be bowled over by Bulgari, or pick the perfect piece at Prada - this brand new apartment sleeps 6+1 guests in 3(+1) bedroomed accommodation topped with a furnished ‘altana’ roof terrace for soaking up the Venice vibe. Quietly luxurious styling with an ‘East meets West’ aesthetic is the order of the day and sets the tone throughout, while all the latest comforts and bespoke artisanal furnishings weave a haven of wellbeing - a holiday base where life is good! Cloaked in tranquility yet an easy hop, skip and jump to the legendary Harry’s Bar, the bustling neighbourhood gondola station, the flamboyantly Baroque Church of San Moisè with its frosted cake-style frontage and, for those with a penchant for opera and history, the site of the once influential but long-disappeared Teatro San Moisè (1620-1818), La Marchesa’s air-conditioned* accommodation extends over 3 floors of the building and comprises – Ground floor • Its own exclusive entrance at the corner of the little square known as ‘Corte Barozzi’, opening into a vestibule hallway with a utility room* and private stairway rising to the 2nd floor and • An impressively spacious open-plan and dual aspect sitting/dining room/well-equipped kitchen capturing the morning sun and decked out in an elegant pearl grey polished Marmorino with extensive timbers overhead, oak flooring with Moroccan-pattern Kilim underfoot, tall windows with decorative balustrades to the fore, and all lavishly furnished with meticulous attention to detail in cool tones, fine fabrics, and high-end accoutrements including a splendid pair of 19th century Neapolitan oil on canvas water scenes which gently draw the eye… • A deluxe master bedroom/suite again featuring tall windows with decorative balustrades, softly lit by the glow of Oriental-style lanterns and dressed for relaxation & pleasure in fine Ikat fabric and peacock blue velvet, with a double bed (which can be divided into twins upon your request), a wardrobe, plus a cosy semi-separate studio area with a single sofa bed and a wardrobe. • A pristine en suite ‘bathroom-to-top-all-bathrooms!’ in white Asiago marble, Arabesque tiling, and showcasing a delightful Middle Eastern-style archway leading to a bathtub with shower over, which beckons you to luxuriate and pamper to your heart’s content! • A charming 2nd double bedroom in Tapet-Cafe ‘Deco Fan’ wallpaper and fabric and an indigo blue inspired by the traditional leather dyes of Fez, with a double bed (which again can be divided into twins upon your request), and a small writing desk tucked neatly beside a pretty mirror-and-fretwork fronted wardrobe • A 2nd (separate) luxurious bathroom in turmeric and cream with a shower to the centre encased in ceramic fan-shaped tiling • Stairway in teal blue Marmorino rising up to the 3rd floor and • A very cute and characterful 3rd double bedroom showcasing Lewis & Wood’s exuberant ‘Adam’s Eden’ wallpaper and fabric, with twin beds resting beneath the beams, a built-in wardrobe to the side, and a smart en suite bathroom in matching décor with a separate shower set beneath a sloping beamed ceiling • A dainty sitting/study mezzanine on the opposite side (please note the low beams) with a clear balustrade overlooking the soaring timbers and La Marchesa’s main living space below • Stairway rising to the Rooftop where you’ll find • A spacious lantern-lit ‘altana’ roof terrace furnished with tables, chairs and an outdoor sofa, for breakfasting al fresco and apertivi beneath the stars! * Note that the ground floor utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer for added convenience during longer stays at La Marchesa Important: please note that the apartment only accepts fully supervised children over 6 years of age or under 1 year (non-walking babies) because of the internal stairs, ‘altana’ rooftop terrace. OUR COMMENT Close the door behind you and a little piece of Venice becomes yours… A splendid VOV restoration project with Florentine partner ArchFlorence - close to Teatro La Fenice and sharing the immediate neighbourhood with the 5-star Bauer and The St. Regis Venice luxury Hotel. Plus the sights of St. Mark’s Square are all within your grasp! - the Basilica, Campanile, Doge’s Palace, Clock Tower, Caffé Florian, and more… Also close to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Vallaresso for easy travel around town, and to the ‘traghetto’ next to the exclusive Gritti Palace Hotel, which, during operating hours, carries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the arty and laid-back district of Dorsoduro. *Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation.
