Description
Corte Rossa Terrace
A dreamy Venetian pied-à-terre boasting a gorgeous rooftop terrace in the genteel district of San Samuele in the San Marco sestiere.
Swaddled in silence within a labyrinth of antique alleyways amidst an oasis of fine palazzi a world away from the tourist trails, the charming Corte Rossa Terrace sleeps 3+1 guests in freshly refurbished surroundings set within an entirely detached property (quite a rarity in Venice!)
Overlooking a peaceful little courtyard to the fore, where an ancient ‘vera da pozzo’ stone wellhead keeps a little water fountain company beside rambling foliage that tumbles carelessly over a palazzo garden wall, this pretty terracotta pad offers 2 cosy bedrooms in bright and breezy accommodation laid over 4 floors.
Sharing its distinguished and hauntingly atmospheric central locale with Francois Pinault’s Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art, the birthplace of legendary lover Giacomo Casanova, and the prestigious Grand Canal palaces collectively known as 'Palazzo Mocenigo' (once the Venetian bolthole of 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' British romantic poet and literary figure, Lord Byron), Corte Rossa Terrace offers air-conditioning throughout along with Wi-Fi, dainty balconies and a furnished terrace on the top.
Stylishly presented and comprehensively kitted out with everything you need for a fabulous Venetian stay, its tasteful and super-comfy accommodation comprises:
A communal entrance and hallway with stairs (no lift) rising to the
1st Floor
A wet room decked out in red mosaic tiling with shower, w.c. and wash-hand basin
Stairs rising to the
2nd Floor
A delightful principal bedroom with double bed, warm wooden flooring, built-in wardrobes, and a pair of glazed doors opening onto a long balcony to the front of the apartment where you can welcome in the day after a blissful night’s sleep!
A sweet 2nd bedroom with a single day bed, a single sofa bed and a pair of bijou balconies to the side
Situated in between the 2 bedrooms…
A modern bathroom in ochre mosaic tiling with shower
Stairs rising to the
3rd Floor
A light and airy triple-aspect main sitting area / kitchen attractively furnished, a central kitchenette / dining station suited to light cooking and with bar stools around, a door opening onto a balcony to the front of the apartment, and another onto a further balcony skirting the entire length of the property to the side with external staircase rising to the
4th Floor
And to top it all off splendidly… a large and very wonderful furnished terrace up on high offering fabulous 360° views across neighbouring Venetian rooftops!
Important: please note that the apartment only accepts fully supervised children over 6 years of age or under 1 year (non-walking babies) because of the internal stairs and ‘altana’ rooftop terrace.
OUR COMMENT
A divine pied-à-terre with truly impressive outside space, quietly tucked away yet an easy stroll to St. Mark’s Square.
Rubbing shoulders with some of the city’s most coveted residential addresses and ideally placed for the first time or regular visitor to Venice who appreciates peaceful surroundings yet who’d like to stay close to many of Venice’s star attractions.
Within a stone’s throw of the Accademia Bridge / Galleries, and within moments of several osterie, the outdoor cafes of Campo Santo Stefano, a wine shop, a local grocery / delicatessen, plus a well-stocked and newly re-opened Despar supermarket just a little further on.
Seconds to the area’s antique shops and galleries including that of interior designer Chiarastella Cattana – a discreetly sophisticated showroom of fine and distinctively woven textiles and furnishings and, for scent-lovers, the Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ – one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici.
Also close to 2 vaporetto (water bus) stops – San Samuele and Sant’ Angelo – for foot-friendly exploration of the city, and moments to the local ‘traghetto’ at Garzoni which, during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to San Toma in the district of San Polo.
For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.

2 minutes from the San Samuele dock on the Grand Canal so you can come and go from there is you don't fancy walking. We loved staying at Corte Rossa Terrace and would do so again. Everything was great.

Customer service was excellent from Luca and the team. Perfect little apartment in a great location close enough to everything but also away from the crowds. Very comfortable and very nicely decorated. Highly recommend for a couple or family of 4.

The dishwasher did not work very well. We would have appreciated a dustpan and brush to sweep up crumbs etc. And one of the single beds lacked an over sheet. Would also be useful to have a drainage tray for washing up.

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes! Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include: Corte Rubbi 5 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2+1 A beautifully attired bijou studio enjoying canal views from its 2 windows to the fore and comprising: A charming main living / dining / sleeping area in fashionably clashing shades of flamingo pink and scarlet with Venetian terrazzo flooring, wooden beamed ceiling, a double bed with twin bunk beds to the rear, a well-equipped kitchenette for light cooking, and a dining area seating 4 A luxurious bathroom to the side with marble walls and chromotherapy shower Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514 OUR COMMENT A bijou studio for 4 bursting with colour and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town. A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini. *Note that performances are dependent on weather and season **Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. Generally, the heating works from middle of October to middle of April, while air conditioning works between middle of Aprile to middle of October.
