Description
An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square.
Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire.
Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 8 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes!
Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs.
Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include:
Corte Rubbi 10 - sleeping 6 - on the 3rd Floor reached by stairs .Upon previous request we can organize a porter service with a surcharge.
A handsome and heavily beamed 3-bedroomed beauty comprising:
A spacious and pared-down main living / dining room – delightfully decked out in shades of turquoise and magenta and with a slight Moroccan vibe – home to warm wooden flooring underfoot, wooden timbers overhead, a sofa, a dining suite and a well-equipped kitchenette suited to light cooking
A gorgeous principal bedroom with a double bed and canal views to the fore with its own luxurious en suite bathroom with sloping beamed ceiling and sunken bathtub with steps leading down
A 2nd attractive double bedroom decorated in Cole & Son’s Procuratie e Scimmie wallpaper with a double bed and painted beams
A restful twin bedroom with 2 single beds and sloping beamed ceiling, elegantly dressed in sage green and scarlet
A 2nd luxurious bathroom with chromotherapy shower, also with sloping ceiling
Important – Please be sure to take a look at the photo gallery to better appreciate the restricted headspace in certain areas of this apartment
Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 5, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 7, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 11, Corte Rubbi 5514
OUR COMMENT
A handsome 3-bedroom beauty brimming with style and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town.
A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront…
… A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo.
Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.

Great apartment in an idea location, a few minutes walk away from lots of amenities. Views On Venice were excellent to deal with, couldn't be more helpful and I wouldn't look anywhere else for accommodation in Venice. 5 star service!

The apartment was first class and recommend to anyone. Its location is perfect as very central. The only one thing I would advise is you need to be fit to climb the four flights of stairs. Apart from that stay here, it’s amazing !

This apartment and building are beautiful. Fully renovated to a very high standard. You can admire the old floors and wood beams from the moment you step into the hallway. The apartment itself was clean, tidy and secure with plenty of amenities. The walls and floors are solid so you cannot hear other guests in neighbouring properties unlike some I have stayed in before in Venice. Highly recommend. The only thing to note about this property are the amount of stairs you have to climb. It was fine for me and my wife but my mum struggled a little bit but it didn't ruin her trip whatsoever. The company arranged a porter for us on the last day to take our bags from the apartment door to the water taxi at a very reasonable cost.

OUR COMMENT A comfortable and light-filled beacon of style with a fabulous ‘altana’ in San Samuele. Seconds to the area’s antique shops and galleries including that of interior designer Chiarastella Cattana - a discreetly sophisticated showroom of fine and distinctively woven textiles and furnishings and, for scent-lovers, the Venice outlet of the famous Florentine ‘Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella’ - one of the oldest pharmacies in the world and one time fragrance maker to Catherine de’ Medici. Also close to two vaporetto (water bus) stops - San Samuele and Sant’ Angelo - for foot-friendly exploration of the city, and moments to the local ‘traghetto’ at Garzoni which, during operating times, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to San Toma in the district of San Polo. * Please be aware that the ‘altana’ is only accessible via the studio/3rd bedroom ** Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? Sojourn in Style in a Serene Palazzo Setting and Unlock the Secrets of Palazzo Vendramin… … A rare collection of fine luxury apartments expertly created within a 15th century canal-side palace near the Church of Santa Fosca in the heart of Cannaregio. Sensitively steered into the 21st century under the direction of noted Venetian architect Alberto Torsello and interior design team Zanon Associati, Palazzo Vendramin provides a calm, unruffled and historically fascinating backdrop to 3 exceptional new apartments (including Sartor – see its dedicated section below). Integrating chic Italian design with meticulously restored architectural details such as Venetian terrazzo flooring and colourful frescoes, these remarkable properties range from a well-proportioned studio with shared furnished courtyard, to a bright and beautiful 2 bedroom Piano Nobile apartment, each offering guests a unique opportunity to sample the joys of elegant palazzo living in one of the most authentic Venetian districts of town. Standing imposingly on the Fondamenta de Ca’ Vendramin, between the Rio di Santa Fosca and Rio del Trapolin canals well hidden from the tourist footfall yet with an excellent variety of local amenities very close at hand, these impressive apartments enjoy the best of both worlds. Thought to have once been home to the large and illustrious Vendramin family (merchants trading in oil, cheese and salted meat and producers and sellers of soap - the latter bringing them great fame and fortune over time), and representing a harmonious blend of the historical and the contemporary, its cavernous communal ‘androne’ hallway with majestic stone staircase and walls embellished with modern art and frescoes provides a fitting welcome to the Palazzo at the start of your stay. Note that the Palazzo can be reached by private water taxi for easy arrivals and departures from within a few short steps of the main Palazzo entrance, and that all 8 apartments offer air-conditioning*** throughout and Wi-Fi as standard. And with a nostalgic nod to a bygone era, the Palazzo Vendramin apartments have each been named in homage to Venice’s traditional tradesmen and craftsmen, or ‘mestieri’, who in times past would have been familiar characters within ‘La Serenissima’s’ labyrinth of ‘calli’ and ‘campi’. Sartor - The Tailor A contemporary-style apartment gently nuzzling the past boasting impressive proportions on the Palazzo's first floor. Conveniently served by lift and offering an unfussy, easy-living vibe within its elegant 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom accommodation to the centre-rear of the Palazzo, this sparkling new apartment sleeps up to 6 guests and comprises - - An elongated main sitting / reception room of classically Venetian dimensions studded with black & white scenes of an iconic Venice and featuring extensive restored wooden beams, Venetian terrazzo flooring, plenty of seating for chilling including a pair of ivory sofas, dual low-slung leather armchairs, and a funky retro Gaetano Pesce designed UP 5 Lounge Chair and UP 6 Ottoman by B&B Italia (1969) in bright red, plus a glazed door at one end leading into a private open-air internal courtyard - A well-equipped kitchen-breakfast / dining room to the side with smart brushed stainless steel units, a wooden refectory table seating 8, and attractive wall panelling repeated elsewhere in the apartment - An inner hallway leading to Sartor’s 3 restful bedrooms & 2 bathrooms - a cosy and pristinely presented twin bedroom with 2 single beds the stylishly understated master bedroom with a double bed, 3 full height glazed doors opening onto small Juliet balconies / balustrades - one to the side, and 2 enjoying views over the tranquil Rio del Trapolin canal to the rear - and a gorgeous 19th century ‘Soffitto a Cassettoni’ wooden ceiling the second double bedroom replicating the master bedroom in decor, and with a full height glazed door opening onto small Juliet balcony / balustrade to the side an up-to-date bathroom with twin wash-hand basins and a bathtub a further bathroom, similarly immaculate and in matching style, with twin wash-hand basins and a large shower **Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We have 2 other apartments within the Palazzo: , Varoter and Spezier. OUR COMMENT A trendsetting apartment harking back to days of old in a privileged position in the Cannaregio ‘sestiere’… … A much-loved district with a traditional old-world charm characterised by peaceful residential areas, a host of historic landmarks including the spectacular fairy tale Ca’ d’Oro and the ancient Jewish Ghetto, plus long and wide canal-side ‘fondamente’ including the Fondamente de la Misericordia and de la Sensa (with their fabulous selection of local restaurants and ‘bacari’ – including our favourites Anice Stellato, Paradiso Perdutoand Vino Vero), and the Fondamente Nove – Venice’s northern waterfront overlooking the waters of the lagoon towards the distant peaks of the Dolomite mountains.
