Description
An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square.
Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire.
Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes!
Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs.
Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include:
Corte Rubbi 5 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2+1
A beautifully attired bijou studio enjoying canal views from its 2 windows to the fore and comprising:
A charming main living / dining / sleeping area in fashionably clashing shades of flamingo pink and scarlet with Venetian terrazzo flooring, wooden beamed ceiling, a double bed with twin bunk beds to the rear, a well-equipped kitchenette for light cooking, and a dining area seating 4
A luxurious bathroom to the side with marble walls and chromotherapy shower
Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514
OUR COMMENT
A bijou studio for 4 bursting with colour and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town.
A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront…
… A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo.
Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.

A Masterful Transformation from Modest to Marvelous! On strolling through Venice have you ever wondered what secret gardens lie beyond those tall palazzo walls where trees and shrubs peek tantalisingly over the ancient terracotta brickwork…? Well, now you can find out! On the first floor to the rear of the beautiful 15th century Grand Canal Palazzo Loredan Dell’Ambasciatore in Dorsoduro, and with private water access and views across oleander to the owner’s private palazzo gardens, sits this hushed and high-class little haven for 4. Decorated with a natural elegance that befits its noble surroundings (indeed the palace itself was the birthplace of not one but two ancient Doges of Venice… if only walls could talk!), and ideally situated for experiencing a laid-back life amongst the locals, simply taking in the sights, or getting gloriously lost within the tangle of Venetian ‘calli’, accommodation is both charming and cosy in equal measure and comprises – - A stylish and compact sitting room facing the palazzo gardens, furnished in restful colours embellished with ruby-red accents - An additional small living room with two smartly upholstered single/day beds and a TV, also facing the gardens - A brand new bespoke and fully fitted kitchen/dining room in an attractive dove blue-grey and with seating for 4 - A delightful master bedroom in a delicious shade of what we like to think of as lip-smacking ‘zabaglione’ (!) with a king size bed and a light dusting of period furniture - A newly fitted bathroom with restored stone archway, up-to-date fittings, extensive mosaic tiling and a bathtub with shower over OUR COMMENT A little piece of heaven in a Grand Canal palazzo – freshly renovated and facing a secret garden in one of the loveliest and most sought-after districts of town. Set between the Accademia Bridge & Galleries and the Ca’ Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Venice, well away from the tourist bustle and with lots to see and do right on your doorstep. Within a 2-minute stroll of the pretty as a picture Campo San Barnaba (location of a number of well known film scenes, think ‘Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade’ and ‘Summertime’ starring Katharine Hepburn), along with a plethora of local bars, well-reviewed restaurants, craft shops and food shops including the renowned Pasticceria Colussi for sinfully fabulous ‘frittelle’ during Carnival! and the scenic fruit and vegetable boat moored on the canal. Also close to the stunning Zattere waterfront with its wonderful canal views, the 2-floor Punto supermarket at Campo Santa Margherita (itself a lively hub of student and local life), and the vaporetto (water bus) stops at Ca’ Rezzonico and Accademia (the latter just in front of the VOV office!) for easy travel to the sights of your choice. Are you a part of a larger group who'd like to stay close together at the Palazzo? Other apartments available at this prestigious property include Ca' Cerchieri Mezzanine, Ca' Cerchieri Terrace and the spectacular Ca' Cerchieri Piano Nobile and Ca’ Cerchieri Loredan.
