Description
Come and chill out at our cute Castello condo! –
A fuss-and-frills-free zone with a clean-cut appeal (plus a spacious terrace to boot :) in the very heart of town!
Close to the lively Campo San Filippo & Giacomo moments from St. Mark’s Square, yet perched up on high above a maze-like setting where 4 ancient little alleyways meet in near silence and the crowds of the Piazza have gently petered out, the air-conditioned La Bricola sleeps up to 4 guests in easy-living accommodation on the 3rd floor reached by stairs*.
Designed for those who like their Venice well-groomed and contemporary, its location allows guests to be as active as they please!
Handy for the Biennale at Arsenale & Giardini and for discovering the many faces of this multi-faceted and fabled town, the cosy and compact 2 bedroomed La Bricola offers Wi-Fi, a washing machine and the essentials of home.
Boasting honey-hued parquet flooring in all its main spaces, accommodation comprises:
· An attractive open-plan sitting-cum-dining room with whitewashed walls decorated along a fishy theme courtesy of its eye-catching ‘shoal of fish’ wall art, a double sofa for snuggling up in front of the TV, a modern dining suite for 4 set beneath a series of botanical verdure prints, and a fully-glazed double door to the side leading out onto…
· A fabulously spacious furnished terrace offering a characteristic red-tiled roof-scape, a north facing aspect (so rather more shaded/cooler in summer), and of roughly similar dimensions to the main sitting/dining room indoors!
· A neat and well-equipped fitted kitchen in white - also with a fully glazed double door leading out onto the terrace and so ideal for serving breakfast, drinks and nibbles in the fresh air
· A pristine master bedroom to the side in pared-back style with a double bed, ample wardrobe space, a pair of windows looking onto the terrace and home to the Venetian wooden bricola** which gives the apartment its name
· A slightly smaller 2nd bedroom on the opposite side of the apartment, presented in a similarly relaxing and low-key style to the master and with a double bed and chest of drawers for storage
· La Bricola’s bathroom, shared by the 2 bedrooms and accessible via the main sitting/dining room, with modern white fittings and a large shower
* Although well worth the effort, please be aware that there are a number of stairs to climb to reach the apartment - and no lift!
** The Bricola/e – The enormous wooden poles that indicate the waterways for boats in the Lagoon
OUR COMMENT
A charmingly bijou bolt-hole - modestly attired - and with a terrace that would put many others in the dark!
Close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and to Vivaldi’s La Pietà …
… A short stroll towards the very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of the Piazza, gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play***, the bells of the Campanile toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Within a short walk of a well-stocked COOP supermarket at Salizada San Lio, to numerous bars and restaurants including Osteria Ruga di Jaffa for drinks and cicheti, Al Giardinetto da Severino, Antica Sacrestia, Luna Sentada, the Michelin-starred Il Ridotto, and the much-lauded Alle Testiere (see VOV’s Apartment Information File for further suggestions), and to the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips to the Lido beaches and easy travel about town
*** Note that performances are dependent on weather and season!

This is a wonderful apartment, bright & modern, near to all the main action of Venice though tucked away enough for peace and quiet.

A pleasingly crisp, simple, modern look to an apartment which, although very centrally located, was quiet and comfortable. Well-equipped and supplied. A very good option for the Castello - San Marco border, with easy access to vaporetto.

We loved the apartment. When looking for accommodation in Venice we found many apartments to be dark and old fashioned. This apartment was the total opposite and we loved it. The decor was modern but in keeping with the style of the apartment. It was really clean and we were met at the water taxi stop and taken to the apartment.

The price was expensive but we were travelling at peak summer and it was very close to St Mark's Square.

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes! Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include: Corte Rubbi 5 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2+1 A beautifully attired bijou studio enjoying canal views from its 2 windows to the fore and comprising: A charming main living / dining / sleeping area in fashionably clashing shades of flamingo pink and scarlet with Venetian terrazzo flooring, wooden beamed ceiling, a double bed with twin bunk beds to the rear, a well-equipped kitchenette for light cooking, and a dining area seating 4 A luxurious bathroom to the side with marble walls and chromotherapy shower Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo.
