Description
(Newly refurbished in 2022!)
Along a hidden little alley with a courtyard at its fore,
Sits a quaint Venetian ‘casetta’ with an apartment on each floor!
---------
As ‘cute as pie’, new to our roster, and recently revamped in anticipation of your stay, the sleeps 6 (+3) Lo Squero comprises 3 entirely separate apartments* offering comfort, a top location and quiet elegance all the way.
Situated on a peaceful Dorsoduro calle leading to the narrow Rio de Toresele canal where once there stood a squero (boatyard) many, many moons ago, each charming Lo Squero apartment promises a perfect base in Venice for couples, solo travellers and groups of up to 9 when booked as a whole.
‘Hidden in plain sight’ just moments from Campo San Vio**, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the dazzling Zattere promenade and boasting Wi-Fi connection and a washing machine in each, the fully air-conditioned apartments are spread over 3 floors of the property (one per level) and include:
Lo Squero 3 – 2nd (i.e. top) Floor
Newly refurbished (2022) with Italian flair and finesse and accessed via a main entrance doorway on the calle shared with Lo Squero 2 just below, this beautifully cosy apartment sleeps 2 (+1) and comprises:
Stairs up to the apartment entrance and a further internal staircase leading up and into a well-equipped kitchen, which in turn leads into…
A bright, cheerful and tastefully furnished south and west-facing sitting/dining room strikingly decorated in York’s ‘Blue and Blossom Chinoserie’ wallpaper and home to a beamed and vaulted ceiling overhead, warm wooden flooring underfoot, a smart single blue velvet sofa bed for lounging, and dining table seating 4… not forgetting a dainty little balcony overlooking the courtyard below
A restful master bedroom freshly enrobed in caffè latte / café au lait colours with a double bed that can be split into twins at your request
And completing Lo Squero 3’s characterful accommodation:
A tiled bathroom with shower
* Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close to each other but in separate apartments? We offer 2 other units in this characterful Venetian casetta (little house): Lo Squero1 (on the Ground Floor) and Lo Squero 2 (on the 1st Floor)
** A location featured prominently in David Lean’s iconic film ‘Summertime’ starring Katherine Hepburn, and home to St. George’s Anglican Church in Venice (as well as a manned gondola stand for exploring the canals!)
OUR COMMENT
A Venetian casetta that’s sure to make you smile, just tucked away on Dorsoduro’s ‘Museum Mile’…
A short amble to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the iconic Church of the Salute, the Accademia Galleries and Bridge (and the VOV office!), the Palazzo Cini Gallery, plus the Punta Della Dogana Center of Contemporary Art, and close to a variety of fine eating places and bars including Ai Gondolieri and Ristorante Riviera for fine dining, and Corner Pub, Osteria Al Squero and Cantinone Gia Schiavi for cicheti and spritz.
An easy waterside stroll to 2 Conad supermarkets – one at the western end of the Zattere and a smaller one closer to home at Zattere Spirito Santo – and to 4 vaporetto (water bus) stops – Zattere Spirito Santo, Zattere, Salute and Accademia – for travel around the city (note that St. Mark’s Square can be reached by vaporetto from Salute in under 5 minutes on Line 1!)
Also close to the ‘traghetto’ at Calle Lanza/Calle del Traghetto S. Gregorio which, during operating hours, ferries passengers by gondola across the Grand Canal to the district of San Marco, and within easy reach of the Alilaguna boat stop connecting the Zattere to Venice's Marco Polo Airport.

Magical Stay in Dorsoduro

It was a superior place to stay and I’d recommend it without reservation. This is the second time we’ve rented through Views on Venice and it’s the best rental company we’ve ever used.

This apartment is in my preferred area of Venice. Easy transport options from either the airport or train station. A less touristy area but still easy to get anywhere in Venice by foot due to the proximity of the Accademia bridge. The apartment was clean and as shown in the photos. The bed was very comfortable with quality linens and extra pillows available. Drawers, shelving and hanging space for clothing in the bedroom. The balcony was nice for morning coffee, afternoon drinks in the sun and for drying laundry. The washing machine has a rapid cycle and there was a good sized drying rack. The bathroom is small but functional with plenty of hot water and good pressure in the shower (and shelving in the shower for soap /shampoo). Plenty of towels provided as well, plus (not shown in the photos) a regular plug in hair dryer in addition to the wall unit. We didn't cook in but the kitchen appeared well stocked with both a Nespresso machine and Moka pot for coffee in the morning. As always (have been renting from Views on Venice since 2006) communication was great. Highly recommend this apartment and Views on Venice in general.

It would be nice to have one English language TV station - something like BBC International or Sky News.

The apartment is spacious, full of daylight, and has a crossventilation. It is tranquil in the middle of a residential Venitian block and away from pedestrian traffic. The little balcony overlooks the roofs of surrounding buildings. We stayed for four weeks, so the two flights of stairs didn't bother us that much since only once did we have to bring our luggage up and down. The apartment has all of the services needed for a more extended stay. The service from the Views on Venice was impeccable! Thank you, Analisa, for always being available, helpful, and responsive!

Ca’ Del Monastero 8 Introducing the very special Ca’ Del Monastero - a fine antique residence comprising 9 superbly restored apartments of varying size (including Ca’ Del Monastero 8 - see its dedicated section below) situated in what was once the monastery connected to the ancient Church of San Zan Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), moments from the Grand Canal in the district of Santa Croce. Enjoying an atmosphere of calm serenity in what must surely be one of Venice’s most evocative and unspoilt neighbourhoods - indeed a step back in time - the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments offer spacious and beautifully presented accommodation for small and medium size parties or up to 38 guests if taken together.* No expense has been spared in its recent remodelling… Carefully co-ordinated contemporary furnishings and soft neutral colours meld seamlessly against a traditional backdrop of polished red marble and/or traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring, while stylish high-spec fittings and attractive finishes, such as textured resin walls and luxurious feature wall coverings, give a fresh and fashionable twist to the building’s ancient framework. Enhanced by a range of up-to-date facilities as demanded by today’s savvy traveller (including air-conditioning***, Wi-Fi internet connection and communal utility facilities), the Ca’ Del Monastero apartments are perfectly placed for communing with the true and heart and soul of the city and for visiting all that Venice has to offer while providing all the comforts of modern city living. Ca’ Del Monastero 8 Neat, petite, convenient and sweet! – A brand new addition to the Ca’ Del Monastero residence, offering 1 bedroom/1 bathroom plus a shared furnished courtyard** Situated to the rear of the building with views over the ‘Salizada’ to the pretty walled rear garden of Venice’s Natural History Museum at the Fondaco Dei Turchi, the apartment sleeps 2 in comfort on the 2nd floor reached by stairs. Accessed via an entrance on the Salizada below (note the plaque on the wall dedicated to Don Luigi Caburlotto who, in this house in 1850, founded the religious ‘Institute of the Daughters of San Giuseppe’), the apartment comprises a cosy main sitting room decorated in restful coffee colours leading to a well-equipped and fully-fitted kitchen/dining room, while at the opposite end of the apartment lies the well-proportioned bedroom with double bed and plenty of storage, and to its side, the apartment’s modern bathroom with shower. And last but not least, access on the ground floor to the shared internal furnished courtyard – a little haven of calm set away from the world! * Are you a part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer seven other apartments within this residence: Ca’ Del Monastero 1, Ca’ Del Monastero 2, Ca’ Del Monastero 3, Ca’ Del Monastero 4, Ca’ Del Monastero 5,Ca’ Del Monastero 6, Ca’ Del Monastero 7, Ca’ Del Monastero 9. ** Please note that the furnished internal courtyard is shared with guests of Ca’ Del Monastero 5 Our Comment Style, creature comforts and history combined, in an area brimming with local flavour. Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light, and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city. And so much to see and do right on your doorstep… Moments to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio - one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares and home to a well-stocked Coop supermarket and nearby local shops - and a short walk to a Conad supermarket on the Rio Marin canal. Close to a great variety of cafes, bars and eateries including All’ Anfora, La Zucca, Il Refolo, Al Prosecco and Antica Besseta to name but a few, and within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, Palazzo Mocenigo at San Stae (Museum of the History of Fabrics, Costumes and Perfumes) and the Fondazione Prada at Ca’ Corner Della Regina. A leisurely stroll to the 14th Century Franciscan Church of the Frari, (home to Canova's extraordinary triangular marble tomb and Titian's legendary masterpiece, the 'Assumption'), the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with its amazing Tintoretto’s, the vast palazzo-lined Campo San Polo plus the culinary delights and buzz of the Rialto. ***Please note that the operation of air-conditioning and heating are subject to municipality regulation. In general, heating is available from mid-October to mid-April, while air-conditioning is available from mid-April to mid-October. Please contact us for further information. For arrivals between 8.00 p.m. and midnight there is an additional cost for "late arrival" of Euro 50, to be paid in cash upon arrival. We organize arrivals between midnight and one o'clock with an additional cost of Euro 100, after this time we reserve the right to accept the customer always with a supplement to be quantified according to the time of arrival.21 reviews

An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square. Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire. Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 10 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes! Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs. Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include: Corte Rubbi 7 – on the 2nd Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2 (+1) A ravishing and restful 1 bedroomed apartment comprising: A main living / dining area with well-equipped kitchenette (suited to light cooking)…. strikingly presented in shades of steely blue and dusky rose pink and with wooden beams overhead, a combination of Venetian terrazzo and wooden parquet flooring underfoot, a dining table for 3, plus exposed painted brickwork and a trapeze-artist mural set above a luxuriously large ruby-red velvet sofa (sleeping 1/for lounging) A warm and inviting wooden beamed double bedroom in gold and pink with a beautiful Murano glass chandelier overhead, terrazzo flooring underfoot and a tall window just to the side of a Rococo-style double bed A luxurious bathroom with chromotherapy shower, situated at the apartment entrance/to the rear of the living room Are you part of a larger group who’d like to stay close together but in separate apartments? We offer 9 other apartments within this palazzo: Corte Rubbi 1, Corte Rubbi 3, Corte Rubbi 5, Corte Rubbi 6, Corte Rubbi 8, Corte Rubbi 9, Corte Rubbi 10, Corte Rubbi 11 and Corte Rubbi 5514 OUR COMMENT A delightful city-base for 3, full of style and joie de vivre, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town. A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront… … A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe… … Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness… Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo. Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa. Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini. *Note that performances are dependent on weather and season **Please note that the operation of air conditioning and heating are subjected to the municipality regulation. Generally, the heating works from middle of October to middle of April, while air conditioning works between middle of Aprile to middle of October. Please contact us for further information.16 reviews
